Switch Gear Power System Protection Relays Lab

A power system protection relay is an electrical circuit which is designed to process the electrical parameters and break the operation when the input is not in accordance to the set parameters. Primarily the relays used to constitute of electromagnetic coils which were used for protection against the fluctuation of current and voltage which are recognized as over-current, over-voltage, reverse power flow, over-frequency, and under-frequency.

Microprocessor based power system protection relays have replaced and phased out the archaic electromagnetic protection relays.
Today a single microprocessor protection relay even performs functions which used to implement multiple electromechanical relays earlier. Switch gears are used in electrical power system networks to break the electrical power connection / supply. Switch gear is a critical element of the power house because it helps in regulation and control of power system by breaking the network in order to rectify a fault and controlling the demand / supply ratio of electrical power. Hence Switch Gear & Power System Protection Lab is the most crucial study for an electrical engineer who aspires to work in a power plant or an electrical utility enterprise.
